Japanese Technology | Why Japan was able to build an atomic bomb in 6 months
Hello friends. Currently, there are 13 countries in the world that officially admit to possessing nuclear weapons. Of which, 9 countries are self-produced, while 4 countries are “shared” under the agreement with NATO. With nuclear weapons, the defense power will be doubled. Because when falling into a deadlock, people can bring them out to sacrifice their lives. So everyone wants to own it. .
While Iran struggles to find raw materials, Japan wants it, very quickly. Why is that? Let’s find out together! In 1953, the President of the United States, Eisenhower announced the “Atoms for Peace” program at the United Nations. Accordingly, they will provide technology, techniques and materials to countries that want to have civilian nuclear programs.
It sounds silly. Because at that time, only the United States and the Soviet Union understood atomic energy well. The spread to many countries, is like losing your own “danger number 1” status. Actually, it’s not what we think. Americans have calculated. .
First, countries participating in the “Atoms for Peace Program”, must sign an agreement: “only use atomic energy to produce electricity, treat cancer, destroy insects, or increase energy agricultural productivity. They pledge not to use it to make weapons. For oversight, the United States proposed the creation of an “International Atomic Energy Agency.”
Second, for economic benefits. By supplying nuclear technology and materials to other countries, Americans have raked in tens of billions of dollars a year. Third, the Atomic for Peace initiative helps the United States make new friends, and strengthens existing alliances. Some countries that had ambitions to “own” nuclear weapons at the time, like Britain and France, were delighted with the program.
Because of competition for influence, the Soviet Union later did the same as the United States, providing atomic technology to its allies. Last and most importantly, at the height of the Cold War, the United States considered any war with the Soviet Union to involve nuclear weapons. So they looked for ways to increase their stockpile.
To avoid public outcry, the atomic program for peace was propagated to create cover. During President Eisenhower’s tenure, their number of nuclear weapons increased from 1,000 to 22,000. Their destructive power is equivalent to 1,360,000 bombs dropped on Hiroshima. However, everything has two sides. .
The Atomic for Peace program could set the stage for some countries to develop nuclear weapons. One expert once said: “The Eisenhower administration ignored the fact that nuclear plowshares can be molded into swords.” That argument is partly true for India. Thanks to technology and materials provided by the United States, they produced enough plutonium to make a nuclear weapon, in 1974.
